Launchpad MK3 Range
In 2018 I led the redesign of Novation’s classic Launchpad range. I drove the entire design process from user research and concept generation through to working with engineering teams as well as Ableton to ensure the entire range delivered the best user experience possible.
We invested heavily in user research to deeply understand what users needed out of their Launchpads, and focussed the designs on allowing users to get going and make music as quickly as possible while offering depth that users could grow into at their own pace.
In 2020 I also worked directly with the Logic and Garageband teams at Apple to bring direct integration of Launchpads with Logic and Garageband.
Launchkey Mini MK3
I also led the redesign of Launchkey Mini. On surveying and interviewing Launchkey Mini users, we found that users were increasingly expecting the features from full-sized keyboards into a mini-key form factor. Through rigorous user testing, I was able to deliver a layout for the controller that allowed users access to a wide variety of features in a way that was usable out of the box without instruction.
I’m particularly proud of the generative arpeggiator which I designed for this product, which gives users beautiful and endlessly different variations of their input notes at the turn of a knob.
FLkey Range
In 2021 I proposed the FLkey range, starting with FLkey 37 and FLkey Mini which were launched in 2022 as the first ever range of keyboards designed to work with FL Studio. I led the design process and concepting phase before handing over to a junior designer.
FLkey was met with a positive reaction from FL Studio users, and the initial success of the range led to an expansion of the FLkey controllers with the release of FLkey 49 and FLkey 61 in 2023.
